Modalities Informing Your Care

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) CBT is a widely used, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It helps individuals identify distorted or unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge these thoughts, and develop healthier ways of coping with difficult situations.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) EMDR is a trauma-informed therapy that helps the brain process and integrate distressing or traumatic memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. By changing how these experiences are stored in the brain, EMDR can reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences and support healing from trauma, anxiety, and other related concerns.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) DBT is a structured psychotherapy that blends cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness to help individuals manage emotions, improve relationships, and build distress tolerance. It emphasizes balancing acceptance with change and develops four core skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation. While particularly effective for those with emotional regulation challenges, its techniques can benefit anyone.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) ACT is a mindfulness-based psychotherapy that encourages individuals to accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than avoiding or fighting them, while committing to actions aligned with their values. ACT aims to enhance psychological flexibility by helping people focus on the present moment, defuse from unhelpful thoughts, and pursue meaningful goals, even in the presence of discomfort.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) ERP is an evidence-based therapy most commonly used to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other anxiety-related conditions. Many individuals with OCD experience a cycle in which intrusive thoughts create distress, leading to compulsive behaviors or avoidance that temporarily reduce anxiety but ultimately reinforce it. ERP helps break this cycle by supporting clients in gradually facing feared thoughts, sensations, or situations. Through guided and collaborative exposure exercises, clients learn to tolerate anxiety without engaging in compulsions or avoidance behaviors. ERP can help individuals reduce compulsions, build confidence managing anxiety, and regain greater freedom in their daily lives.

Narrative Therapy Narrative Therapy is a strengths-based, collaborative approach that helps individuals separate themselves from their problems by exploring the stories they tell about their lives. It encourages people to reframe and rewrite these narratives to highlight their values, strengths, and abilities, fostering empowerment and new perspectives.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Internal Family Systems therapy is a compassionate, evidence-based approach based on the idea that we all have inner parts—such as a critical part, a people-pleasing part, or a protective part—that developed to help us cope. Rather than trying to eliminate these parts, IFS helps us understand and heal them with curiosity and compassion. IFS is especially helpful for trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges.
